Fortune’s Weave Wave 1 is four weapons, not a new story chapter

Nintendo’s paid Expansion Pass starts with four prototype weapons modeled after Three Houses relics. The $34.99 US pass also covers two later waves, but it requires the full Switch 2 game and individual waves are not sold separately.

A strategy-game map is split into three DLC waves, with four weapon silhouettes in the first panel and story, allies and class symbols in later panels.

THE SHORT VERSION

  • Nintendo announced the paid Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Expansion Pass on October 15; the US pass is listed at $34.99 and requires the full Switch 2 game.
  • Wave 1 contains four prototype weapons for the four heroes, modeled after Heroes’ Relics from Fire Emblem: Three Houses; its public description does not list a new story chapter.
  • The pass includes three waves: gods and outfits in Winter 2026, then new stories, allies and classes in 2027. Nintendo says buyers cannot purchase waves individually.

The pass buys three releases, not only the first one

Nintendo announced the paid Fortune’s Weave Expansion Pass on October 15, the same day its news page said Wave 1 was out now. In the US store, the pass is listed at $34.99 for Nintendo Switch 2. The base game is listed separately at $69.99, and Nintendo’s note says the full version of Fortune’s Weave is required to use the DLC. There is also a bundle priced at $104.99 that combines game and pass. This makes the first question simple: are you buying a four-weapon add-on for a game you already own, or the whole pass with later content? The store pages describe those as different purchases.

The Expansion Pass is one purchase for three planned waves. Nintendo says individual waves cannot be bought separately, so the Wave 1 product page does not describe an à-la-carte option. A buyer who wants only the prototype weapons would still be purchasing access to the larger pass, while a buyer who wants the future story content gets the same pass now and waits for later releases. Nintendo lists Wave 2 for Winter 2026 and Wave 3 for 2027; neither date is a day-specific release promise. Nintendo’s US announcement gives the current contents and the purchase condition.

Wave 1 is a weapon set tied to Three Houses relics

The first wave contains prototype weapons for the game’s four heroes, modeled after Heroes’ Relics from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Nintendo describes Wave 1 as equipment and does not list a new route, story chapter or character pack. It is a small download, listed by Nintendo’s US store as 3 MB, which fits a set of in-game data rather than a new game mode. File size alone does not tell you how useful the weapons are, though; the publisher does not publish stat comparisons in the product description.

The Relic reference gives Three Houses players a recognizable theme, but Nintendo’s written announcement does not promise a combat bonus or recommend a specific hero. A hands-on Miketendo64 review maps the prototypes to the four Flame Lords: Cai gets Prototype VII, a spear based on Dimitri’s Areadbhar; Dietrich gets Prototype I, a sword based on the Sword of the Creator; Theodora gets Prototype XI, a bow inspired by Claude’s Failnaught; and Leda gets Prototype V, an axe based on Edelgard’s Aymr. The review says any character can equip them with E-rank in the relevant skill; the Flame Lord names describe unlock routes, not who may use the weapon. Nintendo does not publish a full stat comparison.

Nintendo Life’s October 15 report says Version 1.1.0 adds Expansion Pass support and an eShop link on the game’s title screen. Nintendo UK’s update guide says the update preserves save data and gives the steps: select the game icon on the HOME Menu, press + or –, then choose Software Update and Via the Internet. After updating, the title-screen DLC link is the direct route to the pass.

Miketendo64 says a short information-board quest in Dagsion appears from Chapter 4 in each Flame Lord’s Part 1; completing it grants that path’s prototype. If a player has already finished Part 1, the reviewer reports that the weapon for that completed path is awarded automatically during free time in Dagsion in Part 3. The review notes low durability, regular blacksmith repairs, and upgrades to +2 that improve power and durability.

Nintendo UK’s update history lists Version 1.0.1, released September 17, which grants extra Fire Emblem weapons as the story progresses, including at locations such as Dagsion. Version 1.1.0 separately adds Expansion Pass support. Nintendo does not identify the earlier story-progression weapons as the paid Wave 1 prototypes, so the two update entries describe different things.

The larger additions arrive in separate future waves

Wave 2 is scheduled for Winter 2026. Nintendo says it will let players enlist Aurora, Smyrnos and Jurah in battle and add wearable outfits. An October 14 Nintendo World Report summary adds that the gods are playable in Part III of the main story; Nintendo’s announcement itself only says players can enlist their aid in battle. The independent report adds context, but does not give an official ability description or a day-specific launch date.

Wave 3 is planned for 2027 and is described as new stories featuring Bertrand, Talimun, Orchel and Anatolia, plus additional allies, classes and other content. Nintendo does not yet give a specific date or chapter count in the announcement. That makes the pass a future-content purchase as much as a current weapon add-on. There is enough confirmed information to know the rough types of content and the calendar windows, but not enough to judge how long the new stories will be or how the extra classes will change team planning.

The eShop date and announcement date differ by a day

Nintendo’s US Wave 1 store page records October 14, while its US news post announcing that Wave 1 is out is dated October 15. Nintendo Life also published its report on October 15 and says the first wave would launch later that day. The public pages therefore show a one-day date difference. They do not explain whether it comes from storefront timing or the product-page date, so treat the local eShop listing as the practical availability source rather than inferring a global delay. The official store page provides a direct Wave 1 product entry, but it does not change the full-game requirement.

The pass is a Nintendo Switch 2 product and the full Fortune’s Weave game is required. Nintendo’s store page displays the wave as a separate digital item, but says individual waves cannot be purchased separately; the pass is the route that unlocks all three releases. Before purchasing, check that you are looking at the expansion pass and not the $69.99 game or the $104.99 bundle. Each option has a different entitlement. Nintendo Life also lists the UK pass at £29.99, so US prices should not be treated as universal.

Decide based on the future waves, not the Wave 1 label

If new story content is your priority, Wave 3 is the announced wave to watch, scheduled for 2027.

Nintendo has not provided a chapter length, exact later-wave dates or full ability details. Buyers who need those facts to judge the pass can wait for the next announcements; the current pages give broad windows, not an estimate of story length or how the new gods change combat.

The purchase timing differs by what you want to play: the weapons can be assessed now, the gods and outfits are planned for Winter 2026, and new stories are scheduled for 2027. Nintendo sells the waves together, so a buyer choosing the current weapons also commits to a pass that includes later plans.
