Fire Emblem Shadows adds Book IV’s first four chapters; Dietrich’s pass ends October 27

Nintendo added Chapters 1 and 2 on October 9, then Chapters 3 and 4 on October 14, for both light and shadow. Book switching requires Book I story rewards; the separate Dietrich Premium Pass window ends October 27 at 10:59 p.m. PT.

THE SHORT VERSION

  • Fire Emblem Shadows’ free October 9 update opened Book IV, An Island Apart, with Chapters 1 and 2 for both light and shadow. Nintendo added Chapters 3 and 4 on October 14.
  • Story Fragments earned in battle unlock chapters, but players must first collect every Book I story reward to switch to a new Book from the home-screen Change Stories menu.
  • The Fortune’s Weave celebration includes a Leda login bonus of 12 Souls over three separate days. Dietrich is a separate Season Pass recruit available through the Premium Pass until October 27 at 10:59 p.m. PT.

Book IV launched in two steps, and four chapters are live

On October 9, Nintendo’s update announcement introduced Book IV, An Island Apart, with Chapters 1 and 2 for both light and shadow. Kurt and companions from Book I escape to Rose’s homeland, Holtz, and take refuge among its islands while the empire pursues them. The same headline mentions Flame Lords, but the details describe Book IV and two Fortune’s Weave rewards: Leda’s login Souls and Dietrich’s Premium Pass route. Nintendo lists no full Flame Lord roster or extra Flame Lord routes for Shadows.

On October 14, Nintendo added Chapters 3 and 4 for both alignments, according to its official Shadows notice. In the teaser, Kurt’s group is sailing toward Holtz’s capital when a storm drives them onto an island, where they meet a girl who says she is a traveling merchant. The two notices establish four live chapters in each alignment. They do not give Book IV’s planned total length or later chapter dates. Four chapter numbers are available in each alignment, not four shared across the two routes.

The Book switch has a Book I gate

Collect all Book I story rewards before choosing a new Book. Nintendo’s version 2.0.0 notice puts Change Stories in the home screen’s upper-right menu. Light and shadow can hold different Books, so choose the intended alignment’s Book IV there. Nintendo says the selection can be changed at any time after the unlock requirement is met.

Once selected, the Book progresses through Story Fragments earned as battle rewards. The chapter notice gives no fixed fragment or battle count for each chapter. Souls have a different purpose: they recruit disciples. Check the resource named on a reward before deciding that it will advance a locked chapter.

Leda’s three-day login offer is separate from Book IV access

The October 9 announcement ties Leda’s reward to the launch of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave for Switch 2. Nintendo says players who log in on three separate days receive 12 Souls, enough to recruit Leda: String Siren. The dedicated Shadows notice confirms four Leda Souls on each of the first three days. Book IV itself is a free update, so the login items are a separate recruitment offer.

The notice says the bonus began on September 17 at 11 p.m. PT and allows one claim per PT-defined day, from 11 p.m. to 10:59 p.m. the next day. Days four through six award 50, 100 and 150 Leda Medals; day seven awards 20,000 Gold. No end date is listed, so check the in-game Gifts notice before relying on the offer being available. The PT claim day begins at 11 p.m., not midnight, so it can cross a local calendar date.

Dietrich’s Premium Pass window has a firm October deadline

Dietrich: Fair Shadow is a separate Season Pass reward. Nintendo’s October 9 announcement says he can be recruited through the Premium Pass. The official Fair Shadow notice lists the collection window as September 24 at 11 p.m. PT through October 27 at 10:59 p.m. PT. It requires 12 Souls and does not state the Premium Pass price.

The Premium Pass applies to Dietrich’s recruitment; Book IV’s story is free. Nintendo says some featured Souls may appear in treasure chests or the Bazaar shortly after the season, but it does not promise when or whether a specific Soul will be available there. That possible later route does not extend the Premium Pass window.

The October 14 update also introduces Magnus

Nintendo’s October 14 Book IV notice introduces Magnus: Tidal Merc, a captain of a mercenary band tasked with protecting Holtz. He fights to repay Rose’s kindness. The notice describes him as a sword infantry unit and lists different level-one stats for light and shadow: 80 HP and 42 attack in light, 260 HP and 42 attack in shadow.

The character page also lists Magnus’s level-one magic. Pike Fire applies red damage twice at six-second intervals, with a larger amount against cavalry. Fire Sword combines 40 red damage with another amount equal to 30 percent of the unit’s attack. Dark Self Regen restores 50 HP every six seconds, up to five times, and has one use. These descriptions distinguish a timed damage effect, an attack-linked strike and self-healing; they are not a measured comparison of upgraded builds.

The Magnus login notice lists a seven-day offer from October 13 at 11 p.m. PT through October 23 at 10:59 p.m. PT. Days one through three and five through seven each award a Soul, while day four awards 9,000 Gold. That login offer has ended. Its six Souls plus three from Book IV story rewards total nine of the 12 needed to recruit him; Nintendo lists battle treasure chests and the Bazaar as further sources.

The new support conversation has a separate unlock route

The October 14 notice also adds a Magnus × Leda support conversation. Nintendo’s official play guide says both disciples must already be on the team to unlock their conversation. Tea is the required resource, earned from login rewards and some daily challenges or events. Players can reach the conversation list through a disciple’s Profile or the home-screen speech bubble; a mark indicates an available unlock. Tea has a carry limit of 30, and excess Tea disappears. Rewards are paid once when a conversation is unlocked, but the dialogue can be viewed again afterward.

Version 2.0.0 adds a related Support Effects feature at conversation rank A+. A disciple can equip a support partner’s exclusive magic through the Change Magic screen. Nintendo’s example lets Kurt use Rose’s Crossheal EX. The equipped skill’s level cannot exceed the receiving disciple’s level: its example uses level-five Kurt and level-seven Rose, with the equipped skill reduced to five. The same partner’s exclusive skill cannot be assigned in both Sun and Moon rooms, although the notice allows the same skill for light and shadow. Those room and alignment settings are separate choices, so check the slot being edited rather than assuming every loadout changes together.

Book IV is free to play, while recruitment offers are separate

Nintendo’s October 9 announcement describes Fire Emblem Shadows as free-to-start on smart devices, with optional in-game purchases and a persistent internet requirement. Book IV is a free story update. Dietrich’s Premium Pass route and Leda’s login Souls are separate recruitment rewards, not requirements for reading the new chapters.

If the new menus are missing, Nintendo says the installed version can be checked at the title screen’s upper right and updates checked through the device’s app store. Its notice also warns that uninstalling without a linked Nintendo Account prevents retrieval of play data. An update check and account-link check therefore come before treating a reinstall as a harmless way to fix missing content.
